About the Position:

Location: They have schools all over Japan, and each area offers different opportunities for teachers. Scope: Full-time Contract duration: Minimum one-year contract which can be renewed based on job performance Class size & ages: Expect to conduct activities with both large and small groups (sometimes as many as 30 or more students) of children ages 3-12. Working hours: Regular working hours fall within the hours of 9:00-20:30, typically Monday through Friday. Shifts are 9 hours per day (8 working hours with a 1-hour lunch break). Teachers also participate in occasional special events held on Saturdays & Sundays, including open schools, spelling bees, and recitals. Duties:
  • Kids Duo teachers take turns leading and supporting a variety of highly active games and activities, including Arts & Crafts, Music & Dance, Science, Social Studies, and Teachers Choice.
  • While a set curriculum and lesson plans for main activities are provided, teachers are expected to grow and expand on these foundations with their own unique and original games and lesson ideas; allowing ample creative freedom to personalize your teaching approach and inject passion and enthusiasm into your class.
  • In addition to conducting and supporting lessons, teachers are expected to model proper behavior and life skills, play with students in between programs, help with school events, field trips, seasonal events, etc.

About the Young Learners and the Secondary School English Programs

In the Young Learners and the Secondary School English Programs, Westgate entrusts you with the responsibility of being the sole instructor in the classroom. You have an opportunity to create a nurturing study environment for students at the beginning of their journey into English. It's an exciting challenge that immerses you in the Japanese school system while expanding your teaching skills. Location: Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture Contract period:
  • Year-long: Late March to March of the following year (approximately 12 months)
  • Term-based: Late March to Late July (approximately 4 months)
Classes: Teaching 20-minute or 45-minute classes requiring 1-3 lesson plans a day. In lessons on both the Young Learners and Secondary School English Programs, the Westgate instructor would be the sole instructor in the classroom, not an assistant language teacher Class Size: Approximately 15-20 students Students: Teaching students ages 7 through 18. Teaching schedule:
  • Monday to Friday. Instructors are occasionally asked to work on Saturdays, Sundays, or national holidays.

Requirements

Yola is looking for candidates who are able to meet the following qualification requirements:
  • Have more than one year experience in teaching General English for adults and kids.
  • Hold a Bachelorā€˜s or higher from an accredited university and Teaching qualification (CELTA/TESOL/TEFL or equivalent).
  • At least achieve IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT (for Non-Native teachers).
  • Be knowledgeable of Test Prep (IELTS/TOEFL/SAT/GMAT) formats and teaching techniques or experienced in teaching kids aged 4-16 (Dolphin and Junior Program).
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Gmail, ...) will be a plus.
  • Hold strong confidence, excellent communication, presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Passionate about language learning and interested in long-term career opportunities.
  • Must be able to teach at least 50 hr/month and available on weekday evenings and daytime weekends.
