Is World TESOL Academy Legit?

Learn how to verify our accreditations, registrations, and awards.

When choosing to enroll in a TESOL course, it’s important to make sure that you enroll with an academy that is appropriately accredited and has the reputation that you deserve.

You’ll be pouring hours of work into your studies and will need to make sure that the certificate reflects all of the time and effort that you’ll have put into it.

It’s only natural to then question whether a particular academy has the right academic backing to help you with your goals.

Is World TESOL Academy a legitimate course provider?

Yes, World TESOL Academy is a government-registered learning provider trusted by thousands of teachers and schools around the world.  All of our courses come with accreditation from two accreditation bodies and we’ve won numerous awards for our dedicated work.

Below, we’ll provide information on these topics and show how you can verify the information yourself. Learning how to do this can be useful when you’re preparing to study with any academy or university.

  2. Accreditations

  4. Verified reviews
  5. Government authentication of certificates

1. UK Register of Learning providers:

World TESOL Academy is proud to be a registered learning provider in the UK, but what does that mean?

The UK Register of Learning Providers (UKRLP) is a government-run database, overseen by the British Department for Education. Academies, schools, and universities based in the UK can go through an authentication process and then be listed in this database of verified education providers.

It’s useful both for teachers and for overseas schools around the world. For teachers who wish to find reputable places to study their TESOL courses, they’ll be able to confirm that a particular academy has been through an initial verification process already. For overseas schools – whether they’re in Vietnam, Japan, Argentina, Portugal, the UAE, or elsewhere – they’ll easily be able to check the database and learn about the organization that issued your certificate.

How can you verify that World TESOL Academy is a registered learning provider?

It’s actually quite easy to verify this by searching the UK Register of Learning Providers database.

🔎 How to verify our UK Register of Learning Provider status:

Our unique UK Provider Reference Number (UKPRN) is 10087431.

You can verify our registration on the database here: UK Register of Learning Providers.

2. Course accreditations:

Accreditation is an in-depth inspection process that reputable courses must go through. When browsing for a reputable TESOL course, it’s important to make sure that it has legitimate accreditation supporting it. Many courses have low-quality accreditation, fake accreditation, or even no accreditation at all.

At World TESOL Academy, all of our courses come with accreditation from both ACCREDITAT and CPD.  These are two internationally-recognized accreditation bodies that were established 10 and 25 years ago respectively.

Having our courses accredited by both of these independent accreditation bodies helps to let schools around the world know that you’ve completed a thorough teacher training course.

🔎 How can you verify that World TESOL Academy is an accredited TESOL provider?

After going through accreditation each year, new accreditation confirmation documents get issued.

We make sure to list all of our accreditation details on this page: World TESOL Academy accreditations.

You can also view our profile on the CPD website: CPD Profile.

3. Our awards: Best TEFL Provider & Academic Rigor

We’re proud recipients of the Go Overseas Best TEFL Provider award in 2022, and their Academic Rigor award in 2021.

About Go Overseas: Go Overseas is the leading independent review platform for teacher training courses and related experiences. Established in 2009, for over a decade they’ve helped thousands of teachers to choose suitable training courses and start teaching English.

While there are other platforms, what truly sets Go Overseas apart is that they’re entirely independent – meaning that unlike many other review sites, Go Overseas isn’t owned by any other TESOL/TEFL company. Their main focus is to provide a clear and honest platform for legitimate reviews.

🔎 Where to find our awards:

You can view the latest round of Go Overseas awards here: Go Overseas 2023 awards.

For our 2022 Best TEFL Provider and 2021 Academic Rigor award you can view these details: World TESOL Academy awards.

4. Verified reviews:

It’s important to hear from other graduates before enrolling in any kind of course.

There are many sites online that claim to post reviews for various TESOL courses, but you’ll often find that such sites are actually owned by TESOL companies. They’ll write their own mixed reviews about other providers and then subtly recommend a different course instead – one that they actually operate.

Keeping this in mind, it’s important to make sure you’re reading verified reviews from independent review platforms.

🔎 Where to find verified reviews:

You can find authentic reviews & testimonials in several places:

  • Go Overseas (a review platform for study and volunteer courses)
  • Trust Pilot (an independent review platform)
  • Our review page where you can see testimonial videos.
  • Our Instagram where we’ll often share news from our graduates.

You can also see testimonials from our graduates below:

Awonke in South Africa

Aleksandra in Serbia

Bethany in the United States

Loren in The Philippines

Tim in Vietnam

5. Government authentication of certificates

When you teach English in certain countries, the government there might need to inspect your TESOL certificate through a process known as “authentication”.  This is something that’s usually done in China, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Many TESOL certificates struggle to pass through this process as they might not come from accredited or reputable providers. This means that local governments won’t approve the certificates, and teachers won’t be able to use them when applying for work visas.

However, at World TESOL Academy, our certificates are guaranteed to pass through authentication. Around 10% of the people on our course have previously completed a TESOL elsewhere but weren’t able to get it authenticated. They then come to study with us to earn a TESOL certificate that can be authenticated.

🔎 How to verify that World TESOL Academy certificates can be government authenticated?

Our TESOL/TEFL, TEAL, TEYL, and TEOL courses can all be authenticated by the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) in the UK, and attested by Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai embassies (three of the most commonly required authentications).

We have a full guide here showing how to do this: Government authentication guide.

Inside the guide, you’ll find examples of certificates that have been through the above-mentioned authentication processes and bear the government stamps of approval.
